Most Secular Festival

Which is the most secular festival y virtue of it being celebrated by people belonging to all religion and castes with equal fervour? The answer is undoubtedly Onam - a harvest festival all Malayalees celebrate to mark the return of their legendary king Mahabali.

The 10-day festival falls in the month of Chingam (August-September) as per the Malayalam Calendar. Malayalees prepare to receive Mahabali with various traditional celebrations which include Onapookkalam (floral decoration), Thiruvathirakali, Pulikali and Ona Sadhya, to name a few.

It is an occasion for all to forget their afflictions and immerse themselves in the celebrations - to re-enact the golden period under Mahabali.
